To nourish the nurturer.
More About Us
Sango, postpartum nourishment to heal, was developed after many years of supporting new parents with medicinal foods after labour. Influenced by the Chinese tradition of sitting the month, where the new parent will stay in bed and close to home, while being cared for by family and community.
The custom of postpartum care, Zuo Yue Zi, allows for ample (and necessary) support, care and recovery after giving birth.
Stefanie has worked as an acupuncturist and herbalist with a practice focus on reproductive health and family planning in Victoria, BC for many years.
What started out as a passion project delivering soups, stews and treats to her patients after birth has blossomed into an offering to her greater community and a desire to reach and support more parents.
Stefanie began making post partum foods, using her knowledge of food and herbs as medicine, and making personal deliveries to her patients that were new parents. Almost everyone wanted meal prep or some easy nutrient dense snack solutions and as her practice and demand grew, Stefanie knew she wanted to make this aspect of post partum recovery more accessible to her community.
When she looked around at available options to support her patients and her growing community, there were no postpartum and medicinally focused options (while a gift basket full of only preserves, chocolate and wine may be great, it wasn’t so fitting here).
Stefanie took her knowledge of supportive foods and herbs, and partnered with chefs to create delicious foods that were packed with medicinal and healing value.
Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Registered Acupuncturist and Herbalist)
We believe food is medicine and an essential part of the postpartum recovery healing process. When busy new parents have limited time on their hands to prepare and enjoy meals, having an easy and nutrient dense option is essential.
We take the leg work out of it for you. We have carefully thought and curated each product we
offer. We deliver directly to your home so you can stay nested and cosy with your new baby.
We source locally and organically where available. Quality matters.
We give back. We donate a portion of our sales to organizations in our community.
Becoming a first time auntie during a global pandemic really solidified Stefanie’s belief that we need to support new parents better. Her beautiful baby niece, Hana, who’s half Japanese, also taught Stefanie some of the rituals and community that would be in place had she been born in a country which prioritizes family and postpartum care. Through celebrating traditions with a newborn, like the 100 days celebration, and learning new phrases like ‘unchi monster’ (poop monster) and Sango (post partum) is where the inspiration to bring these products to the community was really brought to life.
